Spell remains:
There are many different blogs and posts telling you how to perform spells and the loots you need to do so. But one thing I’ve noticed is that there is very little information on what to do when you re finished. Many spells and rituals leave you with remains. And what about the offerings you leave out for the spirits or the gods? I don’t know about you but I don’t want to hold onto everything indefinitely, I don’t have the room for a start. So what do you do with them?
spells:
It largely depends on the type of spell and the nature of the materials that you are left with.
Reuse:
Some spell like candle spells and kitchen spells shouldn’t have remains left over. You should be using an entire candle for one spell so there shouldn’t be any wax left over. But if the candle comes in a glass or a jar then they can be reused provided they are cleansed properly. (you don’t want the energy from a hex lingering around when you are trying to do a love spell.) and lets face it, it’s far too expensive to keep throwing out and buying new materials. So things like jars, candle holders, cloth, string and crystals can all be cleansed and reused for other spells. But some things shouldn’t be reused. A rule of thumb that u live by is, if it is biodegradable or consumable, such as herbs or papers used for petitions then they are one use and must be disposed of.
The way you dispose of these remains should depend on the type of spell or magic that they were a part of. There are four ways to do this burning, drowning, burying, and dumping. In an ideal world the method of disposal should be incorporated into the spell or ritual itself. This could be symbolic in itself or as a way to close and finish a spell or ritual
Burning:
I use this method for spells related to fire. Ones that relate to passion, high energy and speediness. It is a quick way to get you intentions out there. But make sure that you are being safe when you do so. Fire is dangerous and can spread quickly. Once done the ashes can be spread and released into the wind. Don’t just bun anything though. There are many things that shouldn’t be burned. Like plastics and papers with certain inks and chemicals.
drowning:
This is the act of casting something into a body of water to be swept away. This method should be used with spell relating to water. Spells about feelings and relationships. When doing so it is important to not drown anything that is going to harm the local wildlife. And always make sure that the body of water is related to what you are drowning; things from the seas go back to the sea. And things from a river go back to a river, ideally the same river that they came from.
Burying:
Bury things that you want to keep close and/or draw in. It is a method that is used for earth related magic. For fertility and abundance spells. Spells that are meant to be long term. The location of where you bury them should depend on what your intentions are. If you are performing money magic then bury as close to home as you can. If you are banishing someone or something then bury as far away as you can. Different types of soil also have an effect on the spells outcome.
Dumping
Probably the least used and most specialised of the removal methods. It is highly symbolic of what you want your spell to do. This is the act of throwing the remains into a bin or dumb to be taken away in the least dignified way possible. Used for hexes and curses. When you want the outcome or subject to fester and rot.
offerings:
Not all offerings are tangible objects. But some of them are. Most of the time the things that are used as offerings are food, drink, and flowers; things that go bad. If you’re like me you definitely don’t want rotting food around the house. So I dispose of them. Many items can be disposed of in the same ways that spell remains can be. Yes, even dumping. when it comes to biodegradable items once they have been left out as offerings no longer have value as offerings and can be disposed of in the way that you would have if they weren’t used as offerings. Some food and drink items can be consumed by you as well. Think of it as a way of sharing the food with the spirits or gods themselves. But if you do this make sure that it is safe to consume. All the wards and protections in the world can’t prevent food poisoning.
Another issue with offerings is when is it okay to dispose of them. This is entirely up to you. Use your intuition and leave them out for as long as feel right or is safe to do so. I leave offering out until the next morning before disposing of them myself.
Overall, they way we dispose of spell remains can and should be a symbolic part of the spell or ritual. And always be careful what you use in your spell and think about how you will be getting rid of them.
